I think the 1500 models were given disc brakes after '67? not sure though
Also, I had the fishgill sections too (not any more - new sills) but my air filter only has one intake?
I think this makes UK 68's more unique!
Good luck with the resto, will be watching!
it all gets a bit confusing doesnt it? I was wondering as it didnt have the weird decklid and valance that it may have been a different engine size at birth but all the other bits on the bug were only on the 1500 that year, like the discs and it has had Europa bumpers. Otherwise if it had been a 1200 (which still kept a load of the old parts for a while) it would have had blades. It has also got a 1 year only speedo, has the fuel guage in it but has a different top speed than other years, again was apparently a 1500 thing!

Cheers fella, gonna get craking tomorrow afternoon when I have made a trip to machine mart and got some cutting discs!

I managed to fix my crusty old welder earlier in the week, I dont know why people go on about upgrading welders, you can easily do a pro job on a bug with a basic gas one, most people dont know how to set them right and just trial and error, the ammount of years I have been welding I tell by the sound it makes.

AND BEFORE ANYONE STARTS HIJACKING THIS TO GO ON ABOUT FANCY WELDERS........ Wait and see before gobbing off, you might learn a thing or two!!

Disc's came in with the 67 1500

In fact, to be precise, they came in with the 1500 spec, which came in with the 67

yeah I know, I was saying even on the 68 model it was still only the 1500 that had them

Ok, been busy sourcing parts (all ebay ) Got the chisel and saws out and started hacking out the boot floor, nearly fell out actually.

only left with a big hole and loads of exposed extra rust!

trial fitted my new bit so the elbow grease felt worthwhile!!
