Part 2...
After a glitch with the matrix (probably too many posts) made the last 12 days posts disappear on my 1970 1300 i've started the second part. The first part was mostly the rebuild and repaint over the past 15 or so years.
Its still available here to view but its now locked to avoid any further posts.
About time i showed you my '70 1300.

I decided i wanted a kamei style rear parcel shelf with an opening hatch (but made of more solid materials than the thin hardboard the kamei ones are) so bought a sheet of 1/2" ply and got to work shaping it to fit.
The hatch is slightly narrower than the one on a kamei shelf as the sides weren't wide enough for my speakers to sit on.

I glued some padding on and stapled some of the leftover perforated vinyl from the headliner i made on top.

Bought some cheap chrome screw button cap things off ebay to break up the plain vinyl and to give it a button draylon sofa look of the 70s. I also used an old glovebox knob so it can easily be opened.

Still waiting for my ebay speakers to arrive from Hong Kong from the look of it (even though the ad said from the UK ) so i can't fit it yet. :(

As i have a load of leftover ply i thought i'd make an under dash shelf too.
Cardboard template followed by transfering it to the ply and then cutting to size and notching for the steering column and the bit of the dash that is under the air box drain.
I need to add an edge to it to stop things falling off and i think i'm gonna cover it in grained effect black vinyl off ebay.

I've been forced to paint the bathroom today to keep SWMBO appeased, but still had a quick look in the garage to say hello to the old girl and see if she was still in there. Yep, still there. :D

Parcel shelf looks great, and I like the mystical cloth as well!

Thats my duvet cover.

Speakers aren't coming so getting a refund and will look for some more. Problem is they need to be quite shallow to fit the speaker pod things and most 2 way speakers are too deep so i'll probably end up with some 4" 60W coaxial ones.

As its been too windy and wet to venture outside i decided to do a bit more on the front parcel shelf.
Decided to divide it into 3 sections so anything put directly in front of the driver can't make a break for it going round a corner and end up out of reach at the passengers side.

Nice. Anything stuck on my garage wall would dissolve.
I picked up a huge 6ft Michelin metal wall map when i was a kid when they were demolishing a petrol station near my parents. It ended up getting binned when i was at Uni and my parents were cleaning out their garage. Missed out on another one a few days back as i saw the wall it was on getting knocked down with it still attached. :(

I've always got my eye out for 1970s stuff. My missus doesn't understand as she's all for modern technology.

Speakers finally arrived so screwed them into the pods and mounted them on the parcel shelf.
Added a couple of aluminium brackets bolted to the back seat buffers to prevent it decapitating anyone in the event of an accident. It also allows the parcel shelf to stay in place when the back seat is folded flat. :)
Tried it out and the speakers start to distort at about the 50% volume mark on the headunit which is well above the bleeding ears threshold so it's OK. Haven't had a play around with the different equiliser settings yet. Just glad its got some tunes for the first time in around 20 years. :)

That looks superb!
I'm pretty pleased with it. Still now sure whether to make a stay to hold it open when needed.

Great job on the parcel shelf. I have a couple of the Kamei ones, from your pics, there's not a lot in it, nice one.
My dad gave me his 1303, he purchased new in 73, in the glove box an AA 1973 road map. I love stuff like that, you're getting some nice period touches,
Nice. My bug has 10 or more previous owners so I've no idea of its history.
I've collected a few nice period pieces over the years but always on the lookout for more. 1970s Ebay collectables section turns up some nice things every so often.

That looks very neat. Good work.
Thanks. :)

Cheers. :)

Been a bit of a shit day today.
Inlaws holiday now covers the weekend of Stanford Hall so I can't go to that, and also just got told my dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Sounds like its pretty far advanced too. :(

Been a crap weather day today (storm Dennis can go and do one now ) but the black vinyl arrived in the post so i had a go at covering the front parcel shelf.
Theres a few wrinkles i think were caused by the contact adhesive being sprayed on too thick in places but its not too bad.
I still need to make up a few mounting brackets for it.

Looks great and very practical, I love the diy add ons :D

I think theres now enough storage space in the car for anything i need to carry. Its got the under dash shelf, centre console and the full width accessory door pockets. Glove box has a modern stereo and cigy lighter in it so theres no space for gloves.

The weather is forcast gusty but dry up here today so i'm gonna see if i can get the under dash shelf bolted in this afternoon. I think a small bracket on each side into the A pillar and a couple into the top double skinned part of the front bulkhead at the height of the steering column should do.

Made up some aluminium brackets so i could mount the under dash shelf.
Finding the screw holes once i'd drilled through the carpet took longer than making the brackets.
Its mounted as high up as is possible and with my size 10 feet theres still a fair few inches of clearance between my toes and the bottom of the shelf.

Cheers. :)
I might add a metal support (2mm flat bar wrapped in vinyl maybe) running the full width underneath as it seems a bit flexible if any weight is added in the centre.
Not sure what the genuine Kamei ones are like being made of plastic.

Its an ideal place to display some of my retro tat i've collected over the years. Not sure i'm gonna make it to any shows in it this year other than Tatton Park but theres a few local classic car shows it'll hopefully make an appearance at.

Cheers. He's seeing the specialist today so hopefully we'll know a little more tonight. He only lost a brother to lung cancer last year and one of his other brothers a few years back to the same. Sounds like they think theres possibly a genetic predisposition in the family to it. :(

Cracking little shelf there. You should keep the template and start manufacturing these beauties ;)
For the time spent making it there'd be no profit in making them. They'd need professionally trimming too really as i struggled to get rid of the creases. I might try again at some point.

Bolted the fire extinguisher to the seat mount on the floorpan so its within easy reach of the driver.

Opened the glovebox to pop the bonnet catch so i could check the spare and it exploded.

Spare was still at 40psi but all 4 of the other tyres were 10 or more psi down. New tyres, new valves and refurbed wheels. Any ideas?

Try nipping the valve. Ive occasionally found that the valve isnt seated all the way on new valves. Could also be the tyre hasnt seated on the freshly painted rim yet. Bit of driving around will sort that out

love the trailer just the storing of it was my problem in the past so brought a large 8 birth tent which the family can share if they want it..and now i have a camper,,,well bits of one!!!!!
I sold my bay westy last year and now part own a boring modern motorhome with my inlaws but this seems ideal if i'm just taking my bug to a show on my own.
I'll have the space to store one once i get a new shed built behind my garage as the old paving stone base will still be left.
