I have recently purchased my very first beetle (worked on a buggy previously) My beetle is a twin port 1300.
The engine was rebuilt before i purchased it, iv not driven it yet, it was sitting garaged for 9 nine years and this weekend with the help of friends stripped and cleaned the...
Does anyone use an RPM limiting rotor?
I was looking at the 4500 RPM cutoff rotor.
I have a 1600 dual port with a 009 distributor and 32/26 DFAV carb.
Do they work well? Is the timing procedure the same as a stock rotor?
Where does 4500 RPM sit in with regard to the normal operating range...
I needed to replace the dizzy clamp on my van so thought I'd go posh and get a JayCee billet one. Looks nice. However, before I pull the dizzy out I thought to myself, the van has a 009 and the (1300 single port) bug engine (which is in the back not being used) has a (as far as I know) stock...
1300 Vege single port engine for sale.
Fantastic runner, I have had this engine since 2000, the car was off road for a re-build between 2003 & 2010.
EMPI rocker covers.
It had some work done on it before it was put back in the car, new gaskets, pushrods etc.
Located in Buxton, can deliver to...
Currently running the dreaded 009, and have been meaning to get some vac advance back in my life for a while now. Would this dizzy be any good? Seems ludicrously cheap. Any experiences/advice?
It's for a 1641 twin port on the standard single carb (considering 34icts in the...
Planning on 'static' timing my engine this evening, using a test light..
Some advice would be great ;)
I believe I have a mechanical advance "009" distributor but I could be wrong, photo below..

My new motor is a '79 Bay with a 1600cc engine with a 009 distributor.
The engine is a Vege unit with an "AS" engine code. Is this twin-port?
I'm also assuming that other than the 009 distributor, the rest of the engine is a stock 1584cc unit. The carb looks stock, but I haven't gotten my...
I was just driving a '79 bus with a 1600cc engine yesterday. It drives fairly well only that it's a bit crunchy shifting into 3rd gear. Up-shift or down-shift I get a crunch. I tried to match revs when shifting and I'd get a decent shift then. However, I need more practice to do this...
I have a new TES (engine shop) super green engine (new crankcase, heads etc) which is in my van and running.
Below 2000rpm the engine stutters and holds back to the point of being dangerous at junctions. It idles well and runs fine at higher revs. It feels like the timing is way too...
when i open my volksworld mag and look at the suppliers
why do they almost always come complete with the
its common knowledge iv gathered mainly from here on VZi that they are not the best dizzy and come complete with flat spot.
why would engine builders set themselves up for...
Quick question ;)
A 009 is 90 degrees out from the standard vacuum dizzy - so does this mean that the whole distributor body is turned so that the notch is at around 7 o'clock rather than 5 o'clock? Or are the HT leads simply moved?

I have a standard 1600 motor with twin 34ict's, 009, blue coil and sports zorst. Pulls well etc, but whould I gain anything (even better MPG) from adding a Petronix with flamethrower coil and leads.
Or is it just some bolt on nonsense?
I am a little confused!! I know a little bit about timing and basic mechanical knowledge, but i was reading in this month camper and bus mag about fitting a 009 dizzy. It said you need to set it at 30 deg of maximum advance.
I have two questions 1. how do i know i am at maximum...
ok with all this dizzy talk I've decided I need a vac advance dizzy to replace the 009
option 1 - buy an unknown 2nd hand one that could be worn for say £5 and need a new vac can say £27 (gsf) and point/condencer £8 = total £40
option 2 - buy the £40 one Status are selling (including the vac...
Just got the bus how I like it....and now, the engine appears to have rolled a seven...
Drove fine to Volksworld and back, around 2 hours each way. On Sunday, it felt rough and sluggish, so yesterday morning I popped in to a local Aircooled specialist near my house. Good bloke, has done a bit...
After installing an electronic ignition I have followed the process to time my engine (inc 009) at 30 degress BTDC, which I believe to be 46mm round the pully on my set-up, at high revs.
This seemed to go ok.
However idle now seems to be more 'race over' than 'tick over'. I have adjusted the...
