I'm hoping someone can help me with this as it's driving me nuts. I'm tuning my VW T2 1978. It's hydraulic lifters so no need to adjust valves. So points ago is next. If I set the points gap using a feeler gauge to 0.016 and check it with a dwell meter the reading is 43. So way off the...
I think I may have threaded the screw that hold that locks the points to their setting. I'm afraid to tighten it too much because I'm sure I've felt it loosen when tightening a couple of times.
Is there anything I can do about this or will it eventually mean a new dizzy?
It's a SVDA.
I am rebuilding my 1973 1200 beetle engine & whilst rooting round on the net for advice about timing, I came across the following statement about the Bosch 009 dizzy;
"Please note that VW never used the 009 distributor for any of it's beetle models, and so, although it will work, you may get...
Heres the setup.
1973 1300 beetle, had most of a wizard kit at some point in its history and been changed to a convertible.
Engine setup, all done by previous owner, just finishing her up, haven't got too much knowledge of the old bugs.
1600cc unleaded conversion kit
2 Twin solex 40mm carbs...
I needed to replace the dizzy clamp on my van so thought I'd go posh and get a JayCee billet one. Looks nice. However, before I pull the dizzy out I thought to myself, the van has a 009 and the (1300 single port) bug engine (which is in the back not being used) has a (as far as I know) stock...
All items now SOLD.
Have some stuff for sale, as trying to get together more money to finish off my turbo engine :incheek:.
First up, Holley Red fuel pump.
Ideal for cars running twin carbs. Much much better than the solenoid operated facet cubes!
Bought in mistake, no good for a turbo system...
I was replacing my points and condenser on my Bosch 009 today and decided to check the condition of my mechanical advance, so I took the plate off and inspected, I found there to be only 1 spring?
Is this a major problem? Or is it supposed to be like that?
Heres some pics:
I was messing around with my bug and had detached a few components from my engine (carb off manifold, HT lead out of coil, spark leads out, dizzy cap off)
Then randomly out of nowhere I heard a 'Ping!' I looked down and there was a little spring that had droped from somwhere and landed on the...
The distributor on my 1300 Twinport Beetle is playing up, and I need to get a new one. But I can't decide which one to get. Im going to fit electronic ignition to it (swap my current electronic ignition over). Anyone got any opinions on this? Thanks!
Hi folks I'm looking for a original style dizzy for my split bus running

I am quite new to the scene and not the most mechanically minded. Would anyone be able to spare half an hour to help get my 67 beetle running again.
I have put on a newish distributor and followed multiple step by step guide but no joy in getting the bug to start!
If anyone has...
Is anyone able to give me a hand in fitting a distributor to my 67 beetle. I am new to the mechanical side of things and have done some research but it won't ignite - after many times of trying various things !!
Thanks any help would be gratefully appreciated !
Any chance someone has an original Bosch SVDA type (vac and centrifugal advance) dizzy suitable for a 1600DP running 34PICT3 (single Vac)?
Happy to do a swap for my 1500SP Bosch SVA dizzy!
1300 Vege single port engine for sale.
Fantastic runner, I have had this engine since 2000, the car was off road for a re-build between 2003 & 2010.
EMPI rocker covers.
It had some work done on it before it was put back in the car, new gaskets, pushrods etc.
Located in Buxton, can deliver to...
Currently running the dreaded 009, and have been meaning to get some vac advance back in my life for a while now. Would this dizzy be any good? Seems ludicrously cheap. Any experiences/advice?
It's for a 1641 twin port on the standard single carb (considering 34icts in the...
Planning on 'static' timing my engine this evening, using a test light..
Some advice would be great ;)

A few weeks back, we purchased a 1970 Beetle 1200. We drove it home the 160 miles from Tunbridge Wells to Lincolnshire without a problem and drove around for about a week. The, suddenly after a short journey she wouldn't start. She's not turning over or making any sounds but all the electrics...
