I have a 72 bay with dual Solex PDSIT 34 2/3 carbs on a type 4 1700 engine, they have both recently leaked petrol into the cylinder heads but a couple of weeks apart from each other.

My '65 bus leaks petrol when on or going up a hill and the tank is full. I've gone away the last weekend and the smell lasted throughout the weekend, making it an unpleasant experience, as well as obviously a potential fireball.

Fuel guage (good)
swapped out the plastic in line petrol filter (between pump and carb) for a length of good hose, loads of crap...
I put high octane stuff in my car and my Q is - is any one manufacturers better than an other? I usually put Texaco in (as our local station is that) but I've heard that the Shell duel is better. ANyone got a view/knowledge or otherwise?
Due to the camper being on the road the Passat's sitting looking lonely so we've decided to part with her.
It's a shame 'cos she's a lovely car, solid and reliable but we just don't use her. She's a lovely dark blue and looks fab.
