I recently adjusted my tappets for the first time (2.0 CU engine with hydraulic lifters) and found most needed adjustment.
My first concern is whether the lifters were pumped before I adjusted them - I tried to run the engine for a good long time prior to adjustment, how can I be sure they were...
It's been in storage for a while now not sure how long to be exact there's hardly any rust (odd bit of surface rust), shell is perfect apart from the front end where the nose has been hit in slightly but could easily be hammered out the floor pans are good with the only visible part of corrosion...
I have an '87 B2 passat with a 1.8 petrol engine. When starting from cold it is very tappety, if that makes sense.
Once it has fully warmed up the tapping stops. what if anything can be done about this?
(done about 122K miles if that helps?)
