I've rebuilt a 1600 SP engine and have just put it back into my bug (originally a 73 1200). The engine didn't originally come with a thermostat or connecting pushrod; I've installed what I think is a standard 1200-1600 push rod and a functioning, German bellows thermostat.
So far so...

I currently in the process of re-building a 1200cc engine out of a 67 bug and upon inspection have found out that one of the previous owners has removed the thermostat, linkage bar, flaps etc.
I've bought a new thermostat, bracket and connecting rod but I can't seem to find anywhere...
the video gives you a step by step tutorial how to replace the thermostat valve on a Passat 35i with the 2l 2E engine. This valve controls the water flux to and from the radiator. In addition the thermo switch for the fans at the radiator is replaced. Both parts have the tendency to work...
Fully functional and in amazingly un-messed with condition with the 'void if broken' seal still intact! I spent ages finding one like this, as these heaters have a habit of being opened up and tinkered with over the years - this one has not been messed with! Still on the original wiring loom...

So my dilemma is not overheating, a common enough fault with any vehicle, but underheating.
As my daily I run a panel van with a slightly modified 2.1 DJ engine which has an early cooling system which as stated seems to work too well. Instead of the fuel injection system I run twin Dellortos and...
My 2165cc has no thermostat fitted but the flaps are in the dog-house cooler.
I will be pulling the cooler to fit the firewall material back in.
Should I make an effort to fit the thermostat push rod and thermostat back on?
Who runs a hi-performance engine with thermostat?
Just found this and thought it might be interesting for some of yous.
They are getting sold for 40euros what I think is cheap, comparing to other suppliers.

Ok, so I need a type 4 thermostat, I cant find one that doesn't cost a bazillion bucks, I have read about converting a type 1 thermostat to do the same job. Is there a replacement kit? what do other type 4 engine owners do? Please help, I am at a dead end.
I've just put another engine in my car, an AB code 1300 TP. I had the fan housing off to do some other work, put it and all the linkages back on, but forgot to put on the failsafe spring. Doh!
Would've taken ten seconds at the time, and now the engine's in after an hour of groping around the...
I am toying with the idea if looking to fit a deliyed "on" timer to activate the fan on the remote oil cooler.
Has anyone else done this?
