i think the ride would be like driving across a field! the handling would most likely be terrible.

stock smart car tyres are 145/65 R15 at the front and they look small enough...

135/70/15, 155/60/15 or 155/65/15 are available as well. :)

A 135/70/15 sits nice on a 4 1/2j x 15 rim too. :D

lower profile tyres have less give in the sidewall, they dont seem absorb bumps quite the same, as i found with my golf, its gone from being a nice ride to like driving across a ploughed field!

It wouldn't affect 'suspension quality' but it would affect ride quality. The shallower/stiffer side walls of low profile tyres give a harsher ride on a lowered vehicle.
