1641 in a '72 1200 bug.

just wondering if anyone has any info on putting a 1641 in a 1200 bug. i know that pretty much all engine parts are different so i intend to buy a whole new engine.

Does a 200mm flywheel fit in a 1200 'box?
Is a 1200 'box suitable for more power? approx 70bhp.

any info or experience would be much appreciated.
thanks
sam

You'll need a new set of engine tins as the 1200 ones are different. Not sure if that's all of them, but I'm sure someone on here can clarify.
The flywheel should fit ok, as yours is a '72 and is 12v anyway. The 1200 box is fine and you'll see a good improvement in accelleration, though you won't see much difference in top end speed. You might want to think about a higher geared box at some point, but for now you'll be ok.

All the tin, except the fan housing, (and maybe the breast plate under the pulley), is different. We have a 1500 engine in a 71 1200 and the accelleration is nice.
thanks,
what is your top speed with the 1500 engine in?
A 1500 (44bhp) is good for 78mph with the right gearbox

My 1641 produces about 80bhp at the flywheel and should be good for about 95mph with a 1500 gearbox
i have a 1600 TP in mine on a 1200 box.pretty nippy. hope this helps
got a 1641 in my 63 with a 1200 box goes like stink but with a counterweight crank regulaly sees 90mph :D im also running twin 40s
engine will go straight in yours as its already 12 volt hope this helps
