Finally got the new sliding door handle fitted.

They seem to be. A mate suggested it could be the smell of spilt brake fluid burning off the calipers. The smells gone anyway so its a possibility. Fluid level is still at MAX and the brakes feel good.

Bought a cheap rivnut tool off ebay along with 10 stainless M6 rivnuts so i can install the front airdam/spoiler. Seemed to do the job OK.

Skimmed the paint off the crease in the sliding door and welded a few screws on then used a claw hammer and a bit of wood to pull the worst of the dent out. The bit right at the end of the door was too stretched to get the dent completely out so its got a bit more filler in than i'd like.

Bit of primer.

Some topcoat. The last of my cans of VW Marine blue. Horrible match from this can.

Doesn't look too bad from 10ft away. Gonna give it a couple of days then a light sand and put some clear over it.

Been a pissy horrible weather day down here today.

Had the starter fail again this morning. Just a click from the solenoid. Battery still registering over 12.5v. Figure its the old solenoid quit. I think i've possibly got a spare somewhere in the garage. Could just be a loose 50 terminal cable though.

Braided cable from solenoid to starter rotted away again.

Found a place locally that will replace the braided copper cable. Everything else looks pretty new inside (its about 10 years since it was rebuilt) so looking at about £50 and i get it back in a couple of days.
Looking at £125-150 for a chinese built one on exchange if i replaced it so i'll keep this bosch one.

Guys doing the starter say the solenoid is shot too. None of my spares fit so they're having to order one in.

Got the starter back this afternoon. Cost £60 including the new solenoid.

That’s still good value last time I priced a new one was over £100 and that was 9yearrs go maybe, surprised they hadn’t gone up more! I managed to get a cheap one at the time that wasn’t exchange but always meant to send mine for s rebuild.

Yeah £60 is pretty good value. I reckon the solenoid was probably £20 or so.
It turns over so much faster now that it did, even when hot.

Gave the old girl a wash this afternoon.
