Hey all
My brother has been living in Aus for the past 2 years (lucky bugger) and has recently helped me import a stock 1977 2.0L aussie kombi, problem is he has challenged me to a race at Santa-pod next year with our bus's his is a 1972 1600cc running twin carbs and performance pipe's.
Big question who will win?
also wondering what bhp people are getting from there 2000cc type 4 engines an whats the best things I can to to improve my 1/4 mile times.

Thanks for any help

2.0 type IV's can make serious power, and are stronger than a type 1 engine.

talk to either Judgie on here, or Lee Arnold of LA Performance.

Lee is packed with work till Feb I think, but his add is over there --->

And Rob (Judgie) is "RNJmotorsport for all your race prep and fast road vw needs 07811914732" ;)
Hey

This might or might not help

i've got a 1965 21 window

Last year in a standard 2ltr type 4 engine with twin carbs and a few problems with cooling and stuff.. i ran a bext time of 21.9 seconds

Now this year with a 2366cc type 4... best time was a 17.04... (which will be a 16 next time out)

when the last owner had a 1776cc engine and it ran 19.01

and with his 2332cc type 1 engine it ran a 15.1

I'm going to take a slightly breathed on 2056 type 4, and stick a turbo on it. Hoping to make 150 + bhp

that was a BIG budget engine too though!

Anyone hear from Dan of late?

Daaan!, you out there?

oh yes... the 2366cc was a little way behind.. but the third most money i have spent... first was the house, then the bus and then that engine... but it does make me :D

Dan is still out there... spending his time at the beach and enjoying the wedge lifestyle...
but still have the big question as it is, will i beat him?

are your van the same... or does one have a camping interior and the other have nothing in it at all....

Weight does play a big part of it...

1977 2.0L against a 1972 1600 - i would say the 2ltr would win

i really noticed the difference in power when i changed from a 1600 to a 2ltr

but it all depends on how you drive?..

they both have camper interior's but the 2.0L will be a little heavier.
is it worth me betting him a bit of cash then ;)

depends, is yours 100% stock?

If it is, it's a tough call.

If you spend a bit on yours, you could whoop his ass.
If you bet enough cash on it...... borrow a BWA engine :bandit:

where's my money best spent tho, i don't really wana spend more than £800 on engine mod's so what will be the best things to do.

:hangloose
mild cam, flycut the head, tickle the ports, set of decent carbs, exhaust.

Apparently, the money is ususally eaten up by the heads, on a bus engine, in principal (although Type IV heads, feel free to prove me wrong), stock valves and some mild gas flow work.

To help with the valves doing their job, a half decent cam won't do any harm, but talk to an expert before you go and buy one!.

You've got a solid bottom end on them, pretty much un-burstable from what I'm told, you've got a full flow oil system with a proper filter too :)

I'd go for a fairly mild cam, a set of carbs, Kadrons work well on budget type IV's, so if you can score some of them, you're onto a winner.

Exhausts are always good too, I know Judgie and Lee both make performance systems, I'm pretty sure Abi has one of Robs on her van now, and I think she was running an LA performance set of J tubes and 4-into-1 header and silencer combo last season..
