Anyone know whats in bread that isnt in pasta etc..
Due to having a rubbish tummy, Ive been on a gluten free diet for a while.
Now things have settled down (which may be due to the drugs im on) i've gone back to normal food & ive been trying to keep an eye on what i react to (as at one stage i couldnt eat anything without feeling like my belly was gonna explode)
bread seems to be the thing that makes everything hurt again very quickly :(

Guess who stupidly had bread for lunch  :(

Im thinking it might be yeast that does it? would you also get that in youghurt cos thats the only other thing that i seem to have a rapid reaction to

hmmmmmmmm

You can always check the yeast angle with a few draught beers. For research purposes. ;)

You'll have to find something else to drink (that doesn't hurt you)
wine is good and if u buy it by the bottle it's cheaper! :incheek:
I have lots of food intollerances, Its a nightmare, altho I do seem to be alot better these days

I still can't eat french stick, i end up doubled up in pain for up to 12hrs ....but the weird thing was while I was in france a couple of weekends ago, I ate a fair bit of proper french bread....and i was fine

I can only think with you, it may be yeast that does it for you?

its all trial and error :( weird

good luck ;)

My intolerent of EVERYTHING almost tummy means i cant have white bread.
I'm ok with grainy brown stuff though.

Cider makes me well bloated and is often quite painful, but I LOVE MAGNERS, so i just deal with it.
It does suck though, for sure.
Bread and bear has me doubled over in pain if I consume either regularly. I cut out bread totally for over a year but I can have a nibble every now and then.
I used to find white bread bad so stuck to granary which was a bit better.

Pasta wise I used to eat a lot or corn pasta - which was nice :)

Now however I can eat anything for the first time in years and I must say I'm enjoying it.

Heh!!! Now THAT would be a mouthful!! I meant BEER. Sorry.
Its a pain in the bum food intollerances

Its ok the docs saying try cutting things out etc.. but when you feel like you are gonna pop thats not much help

I had a loads of tests done when i was in hospital and theyve put me on anti inflamatories for crohns but my doctor isnt convinced (nor am i) that i have it - but they have settled things down.

Then again i used to have toast for breakfast, bread for lunch so that would explain why everything hurt quite a lot of the time plus a big heap of stress i was under too :(

Sorry 'bout that waffle, im far better than i was its just annoying when u dont know whats up, ive been waiting nearly 2 months now for my specialists appointment (only 1 more month to go) and all that time ive been banging a load of pills that could be doing more harm than good

Right must train myself.. NO MORE BREAD

I like bread tho :(

Cheers everyone

Im glad i work for a wine company and not a beer one ;)

bread is made from a high protein wheat (traditionally canadian red) which has a protein level of approx 12%. pasta is made from durum wheat with an average protein level of 6-7% and biscuits (and ale) are made from piss-poor european wheat with a protein level of 3-4%. It could be the percentage of wheat protein that causes the effect rather than the yeast which is killed off in both the baking process and wining process (by adding tannings to filter the yeast out in wine and beer).
More of interest to me (as I'm a sad ol' fooker) is that I read a journal paper a few years back at uni which made the link that females with blonde hair, blue eyes and group A blood are the highest risk category for developing allo-immune/auto-immune antibodies (which can cause coeliac disease, and wheat/gluten intolerance). I see that at least two respondents on this thread have blonde hair/blue eyes. I'm curious to know if you are aware of your blood groups? if so any chance of PMing me if you dont want to post personal details on the forum.
just for my own curiosity....thanks dan :D

Hi there

what drugs have they given you for crohn's and on what basis have they diagnosed it?

pm me if you like as have had crohn's for nearly 10 years and know a bit about it. Have never been given anti inflams for chrons as they muck up the tummy!

You can get special bread, wheat/gluten free from tesco.
Or try Wheatgerm bread.
It sounds like you have the same as me.
I'm not diagnosed with anything, but i get bloated until i look like 7 months pregnant.
I drink a herbal Tea called Stomach ease after my tea pretty much every night.
And sometimes Andrews antacid powder helps, but sometimes its like a lottery :[
