any advice on removing a screw from an ignition barrel (attempted theft)

951 Views 16 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  damien
someone has tried nicking my mates bike by screwing a large screw (2 in fact) into the ignition barrel. then when they've tried to rip it out theyve snapped the screw heads.

anyway we've removed the barrel to try and repair it as a new one is stupidly expensive, but have no idea how to get these screws out so does anyone have any ideas?

deffo not loose, ive read all sorts like soaking in wd and heating it up. taking it apart would be the best bet but where would we start? its pretty much a sealed unit :(
Is it poking out enough to hacksaw a slit in the top, so you can use a flathead driver to get it out?

Or alternatively, a reverse drill bit, and wack it in reverse?

What bike is it?
no the screws are just shy of the key hole so we cant use a hacksaw... its a honda ruckus. We have stripped it down as much as we can but no joy. fucking wankers!!!
Weld a bolt to the screws and yank out?
Go to a Honda dealer and ask if the ignition barrel is the same part number for other bikes. There's hundreds of non genuine honda parts available dead cheap.

Try http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/
no the ruckus / zoomer has its own parts all over and doesnt share with any other bike... it's a pain in the ass like that! think i need a pro locksmith
THat sucks the big one, Bernard. :( Wish I could offer a suggestion.
Chances are the lock will be knackered anyway after having 2 screws stuck in it!

I think he'll have to buy a new one!
I got my lock rebuilt by a pro when i got burgled and they took the keys but left my bike. They took the lock apart, jiggled the barrels about and put it back together so the old key wouldn't fit and made me up a new one. Was about £50. Was a pain in the arse cos i had to get the bike to the locksmith - about 2 miles pushing an 850 twin   :D
well a new look costs about 60+vat... plus then you'll have different keys to work the ignition/petrol cap which is a bit poo on such a new bike. a complete lock set costs nearly £150!!! need to find someone who can strip it down and rebuild it! the lock has been removed now so the distance isnt such a bad thing!
2 fine screwdrivers/wire. one to hold open the slot, the other to poke. Now put a big magnet on the one your using to poke with! :)
