hi, i want to connect my laptop up to 'tinternet, and my phone line is in the other room. i dont mind unplugging things if i want to go in the other room...

what wires do i need?
and what do i do?

You should manage ok with just a phone line extension.

Plug extension into phone socket, run it through to the other room, plug into your modem, then modem into laptop.

Assuming you're on broadband, your modem should have status LEDs on it. Is there one labelled 'ADSL' or similar? If so, is it lit/green?

yeah, the adsl light doesnt show when i connect it to my lap top?

maybe the extended phone lead is broken.

still waiting for the hoff to ring ,
pipex is bulldog network which was 578 up and 8m down stream but pipex have dropped the up to 488 , chances are it the network dies i'll be called out to fix it

Does the adsl light come on if you plug your modem directly into the phone socket?

make sure you've put the extension between the PHONE SOCKET and the FILTER, not between the filter and the computer.

Bear in mind, though - that since Pipex has taken over Bulldog - it's been absolutely WANK! :mad: - In 4 years of having bulldog, I've NEVER had any downtime from the internet. In the last month it's been off almost nightly! :mad:
