Anyone on here into fly fishing?

I'd really like to learn, it's been a long term ambition and one I'd like to follow through on this coming year.

I imagine that casting flies is bloody difficult - at this point I can't afford to pay out for lessons though so where do I start?

gutted :lol::lol:
It is not that difficult, it is all in the snap of the wrist, why not google for local fly fishing clubs they may well be able to point you in the right direction. Once you have a rod or borrow one then you can practice in an any open area and put markers on the ground to improve your aim.

Hope that is some kind of help.

that's what i thought, how can you have a thread like this with no jr hartley :rolleyes:
do try and learn,it's the finest way to fish.imho...........buy a couple o dvds;) once you get the hang of it.and it won't take long;)

the 18' wd/handed salmon rod is another story.you will get there.and love it!:) merry christmas and tight lines!
It is a fine way to fish and very satisfying too, I taught myself by watching other people and asking for tips from people in the know, from that it was just a case of practice. Using a field is a good way to practice your casting and accuracy.

It really isn't that hard to learn, my wife picked it up in about half an hour & then improved from there :)
its not that tricky once youve had a bit of practice. you can learn by going down your local park or out the back garden if its big enough, and casting with no fly on. wont take you long to get the knack. some tackle shops will offer to give you beginner casting lessons for a few beer vouchers.

used to fly fish on the tawe for a couple of years, its a lot of fun. didnt catch anything worth eating tho, and decided it wasnt worth paying for the salmon licence and the club fees etc.. nice hobby though, something about standing in the middle of a river, watching it slide by on a spring morning with the mist rising ...hmm..might give it another go meself :)

casting isn't too hard to learn... getting really shit hot at it takes years... you can practice in your garden or a park... you don't need water... and can do it with no fly attached, so no danger of hurting yourself (edit: as panickyidiot has said above)

I haven't been for ages... but I was just shown the ropes by a few others who did it

it's fun and a lot more active than a lot of other fishing... and you (traditionally) eat what you catch

:)
Good luck mate,i want to start fly fishing in a few years.
Just started sea fishing(bout 2 years ago) and it took me a few trips before i 1st caught.
Want to master this before i move on to the fly as well.
