There seems to be a number of distributors available out there and difficult for a novice to know which one is most suitable.
Bug is a stock '74 1200 so I'm guessing it doesn't make much difference
whats on there but it might .Existing dizzy looks fairly new but I can't see any name on it.
However,am planning to give it a bit more oomph with 1300 dual port heads and new carb and would be useful to know what dizzy the gurus would recommend for that set up.
Also, does electronic ignition provide any performance improvement or is it just more reliable ?
Thanks

As above ^^^

Electronic ignition won't give any meaningful power increase on a stock engine, providing that your points are properly adjusted and in good condition.

However, the quality of replacement points these days isn't up to much and you do have to keep them adjusted. Lots of topics on here that go much deeper into the topic if you do a search, everyone has their own opinion.

I too have a 74 1200 Beetle, it still has the stock Single vacuum distributor it came out of the factory with. When set-up correctly, it runs like a sewing machine.
After June 1974, these engines came with a SVDA type distributor with both Vacuum and mechanical advance (Engine numbers higher than D1268063), just a bit more tricky to set-up.
If you swap for a 1300 Twinport engine, you will need to get the right Carb and distributor combination for that. It is unlikely the 1200 components will be right for a 1300.

Hi all,

Im after some similar info for a 74 jeans 1200 beetle.
Current distributor is a JUR 4 0 231 137 039 and vw pn: 111 905 205 AA

I understand this is a service replacement part, however id like to know the PN of the original Distributor fitted to this model beetle. I want to fit electronic ignition however my Distributor is not listed with petronix.

Any help would be great
