yes they do rot in weird places.....
was the 623is with the honda engine, was the top spec one at the time with full leather ect but it made jack diffrence!! the boot lid top started rusting on the flat? just started poping out all over the place
Blimey!

Was on the Wolfsburg factory tour a couple of weeks ago and they were going on about how the Golf bodyshells are warrantied for 12 years against rust.

And that, my friend is why we don't have a British car industry anymore.
i lent him my golf this morning while i was welding his metro and he went out and bought a vw polo !  said he was getting pissed off with it anyway
My cousin called me yesterday to have a look at her Clio's Mot failure sheet, 80k 3 snapped springs and a broken anti roll bar!
metros rust sooooo quickly, especially those rear arches. Never owned one myself, but my sis, my gf, my grandad all have- same problem each time. :)
Ive had 3! Why, I dunno, the last one used to weld the points together when driving along so you'd have to jump start it, my Dad used to go mad cause I refused to adjust them, the police made me jack the suspension up on another cause it was so low, it looked like suzuki sj with a metro body on after.
well i hate metros so i have condemed them to rust!

my bug was almost writen off in 2002 by a metro, then my g/f of the time leaves me for a metro loving geek. to say the least i hate F***ing things!
metro's are cool, i saw a beige one the other day, you hardly see any, like you guys said, they rot....
Anybody ever seen that program Sold In 60 Seconds? Used to be on Men and Motors (dunno if it still is - haven't had sky for a while)

Basically this supposed "expert" buys a car for someone at an auction. They give him a rough idea what they want (diesel, hatchback, estate, cheap insurance etc etc) and he supposidly buys them the best car he can.....

An youngish lass wanted a cheap hatchback, cheap to insure, economical etc etc and has a grand to spend. What does he spend it on? A bloody Metro! Okay, it had a full service history and was low milage for the age but for a grand f*ck's sake it's a Metro!

A bloke wanted a big 4 door saloon diesel car. This guy passes up an Audi A4 TDi for......... a sodding diesed Mondeo! And not a particularly good one either (a non-turbo Mk2)

Only anywhere near decent car I've seen him buy was a Mk3 Golf but I still reckon it was a bit pricey.

But chances of you ever getting anything fixed against it is slim! A lot of pre 02 New Beetles have problems with the gutters bubbling and rusting - but VW won't fix it cos it's on a seam or something rediculous! Despite them knowing their's a problem cos they addressed the issue on the 02 on Bugs....
the reason that Metros and the other Rover cars rust like hell is because BMW refused to fund the equipment needed to either fully galvanise or at least galvaneel the body shells prior to paint.

Metros are also famous for having the worst even ncap crash test results....one reason why they stopped production.

Apparantly they crumpled up so badly the crash test dummies downed tools!! :incheek: :D :D :D
Haha, my mate had an old metro. I told him for months that I reckoned it was rotten underneath (Though I never had a proper look). One day he turns up in a new car and explains how the Metro had SERIOUSLY failed the MOT and was scrapped sharpish :D

I laughed and then thought of the times we'd been caning it around carparks and stuff and was promptly thankful for my life.
I love Metros :D

They rot but they aer BRILLIANT to drive. Just like a big Mini in fact... Used to road rally a few of them, absolutely hilarious. Even a 1.0 A-Series City can be thrown about amusingly :D

never driven a K-Series one though.

I'd love a real early Mini Metro in Pea Green with a monster 1400 lump :D
