Brake reservoir to master cylinder pipes & hoses.

Where can you buy the hard steel pipes that run from the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder?
I know I can buy the flexible pipes that connect from the reservoir to pipe, and pipe to master cylinder, from Heritage. But can't seem to find anybody listing the steel pipes.

I've looked in a few catalogues, and GSF say they don't do them (I was ordering some bits from them the other day and asked). The operator suggested a couple of ideas, that they think Landrover and Mini Metros used some similar remote reservoir and had similar bore pipes, and that a supplier of Landrover or Metro parts may be able to help.

So, does anybody know where I can find those steel pipes that run from the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder?
Cheers!

Heritage used to do them, but not cheap. We used Kunifer tubing, quite easy to bend, (over the knee), and won't ever rust. Got it from a hydraulics supplier, take a bit of the old one to get the right outside diameter.

Yes, my '66 Land Rover has a similar set up, except in that case its a remote cylinder feeding both brake and clutch master - I just got those made up by a motor factor. Nothing special, anywhere that makes up brake pipes should be able to do them, but ideally you'll have to take the old ones with you to make sure they use the right bore pipe and get the flares correct.

Hope this helps.
I've got some NOS genuine ones but I've no idea what model they're from without looking. Mail me if you want them cheap, assuming they're the right ones, and I'll check in the morning.
Excellent!
Moby, email sent.

Laurence, good idea about the kunifer pipe from a hydraulics supplier! Should be able to find one easily, especially living in a rural market town, as there are plenty of farm suppliers who also deal with farm machinery and hydraulics, or there are places in nearby York and Hull that should be able to supply suitable pipes and hoses. And I can always order the flexible hoses from Heritage if they don't have them, or if Moby doesn't have any suitable ones.

Tony. Excellent. That confirms that they may be able to help too. You've just reminded me that there's a motor factor's just down the road from where I work. Didn't think of trying them for pipe (only thought of getting regular parts/spares from them before). Cheers!
yeah, I need some of these too.

can someone give me the heritage website so i can get some blue flexible brake fluid hose?

can you do without the steel ones and just use flexible hose or is that just asking for trouble?

cheers

No reason why you couldn't technicaly use flexible hoses all the way from reservoir to master cylinder. They're not under pressure, but finding a way of feeding them all the way down and across without having them rubbing anywhere to avoid being worn through, may be a right pain.
That's great, cheers.
There's a place nearby that does pipe bending in Kunifer too so will probably just get that done instead.
i used copper central heating pipe / microbore for mine....you can solder all sorts of fittings and bends to it if you like or bend over your knee - availbale from plumb stores or even on reel at B&Q etc.
Cheap and available ;)
You can use the blue flexi pipe all the way but it'll cost you a fortune as it ain't cheap. I use the copper pipe as above as it's the correct diameter and is nice & flexible. Machine 7 & megabug also do the blue pipe
Cheers all for your replies.
Looks like I'll be sourcing the flexible pipes from either Heritage, Megabug, or Machine 7 (probably Heritage, as they have a couple of other bits I need). And the hard pipes will be Kunifer pipes from a motor factors. Well, that's the plan anyway. :)
