So I finally got round to replacing the broken fuel pump pedestal in my bug. Part of the lower section was broken off and stuck inside, managed to remove this. however there appears to be a couple of small pieces left inside. Could anybody suggest the best way to remove these?
I was thinking pull them out with something then flush the engine through, trying to avoid taking the cases apart...
Any help appreciated. Thanks

Break it up with a long screw driver. Make sure you take out the distributor drive shaft first.
Then get a length of 8mm bar and knock the last of the pedestal into the sump. Flush it out with some petrol or similar cleaner that will evaporate.

I bought an engine case that had the same thing...broken pedestal.

Firstly I tried using a rawl plug, but was'nt really upto the job.

Then I used an M8 coarse thread coach bolt, wound it in and hey presto! Out it came.

There were a few very small bits that fell into the engine, but a quick flush sorted it out.

Squirt in some WD40 first to get the juices flowing.

I think I may still have it on my work bench, pictures may follow tonight.

Good Luck and remember, slowly slowly catchey monkey.........or pedestal in this case ;)
