Hi

I have a 1966 Beetle. I fitted a new Clutch about 5 months ago and everything was sweet as. 2nd was always a bit harder than the rest to find but today I can't get it into 2nd at all. All the others are fine though. Not sure what the problem is,do i need a new gear box or is it something simpler??

Thanks for your help.

Do this test:

Engine idling.
Clutch to floor.
Very, very slowly, engage Reverse gear.

If it grinds, the clutch is dragging and there is
probably nothing wrong with the gbox.

I think the clutch is fine as it is brand new and it works well in all other gears. 2nd and 4th are almost impossible to get into now, it just grinds and growls.

It's a right pain!!

It could be the bushes in the chassis tunnel. The one behind the gearstick and the one under the back seat.

My be worth having a look at them. I remember seeing a how to on the bush behind the gear stick not long ago, but can't remember where I saw it.

Bushes

Thanks for that I'll have a look at them at the weekend. Does anyone know how hard easy it is to replace a gear box if it is bust?
