Car got broken into last night

Am a bit down at the moment , had been to an amazing Johnny Dowd gig in at the Academyin Manchester last night. After walking half across Manchester to where we had parked,we were paying for the ticket and my bf was adament our car door was open, none of the rest of us seen it open we put it down to him being more than a little merry!!! Anyway we made our way over to the car only to find the drivers window smashed.

Phoned the police and all that, they weren't going to come out and said we could clear the car so we did, took about 30 minutes to clear most of the glass off the seats so i could drive us home.My bf, his brother and gf had been shopping that morning, gits had nicked his brothers new jacket and a cd worth about £50.They had left the cars cd player which is worth quite a bit aswell as some trainers and other shopping so it's obvious we probally had disturbed someone.

Obvisously now we have to replace the window glass but they have also managed to bend to top of the car door slighty, plus theres a lot of scratches around the door handle (just surface marks so should t-cut out) Any one know how much a replacement car window would be plus labour for a 2001 (51 reg) polo?

I'm absolutley gutted ,I mean they only took £50 of stuff and what its gonna cost us to replace the window and that would maybe triple that (?) but at the end of the day it could have been worse they could have taken the car. Thankfully my bf is off this week and can get the window sorted without to much disruption to us using it.

Now I've got to get through till 5 pm on 3 hours sleep at work, should be fun!! Think I'll be drinking alot of coffee today!

Thats horrible hun :[
Worst nightmare
Where did you park?
We park at that student car park next to the Academy when we go, but its sometimes shut. The side roads are all pretty dark around there too.
Bastards  why cant they go to work like the rest of us

Hope they slipped running away and the cd lodged in there windpipe sothey died slowly and painfully :bandit:
Glad you're philosophical about it - as you say it could have been worse; much worse. But a shit thing to have happened and hope you get it sorted without too much hassle.

Take it easy
My bf and his brother and gf had been to a gallery in castlefield in the afternoon so had parked it off Quay street (along way from the academy!!) It was an NCP carpark which we always park on so he thought it would be ok and didn't see the point in moving it, car park was full when they left it, when we came back it was the only car there.

They smashed the window with a rock so it was some one who had seen by itself , seen no one around and just took the opportunity.

We didn't let it spoil our night anyway, I would have preferred it not to have happended but like I said it could have been worse!
That sucks :(

Was the stuff that got taken on the back seat or hidden away in the boot? You can never be too careful :(

It was in the boot, they had got in and pulled the back seats down.
did they pay for the stuff on credit card??
cos you might find they can claim on the card for the theft.

Yeah I think he did, my bf's brothers not to bothered, we're all ok at the end of the day and thats more important then a coat, but I will mention that to him thanks!

We're not going to claim through the car insurance as the excess is £250(I think), hopefully the repairs will come well under that anyway plus only £50 of stuff was taken so we don't see much point in losing our no claims over it.
use find a part probably gt a window for about twenty/thirty quid fiv minutes to fit but a lifetime of finding bits of glass
You should be able to bend the door top back scarily easily.
Block of wood in the gap and a quick shove usually does the trick

Thanks, it isn't that noticible straight on but if you look down the side of the car it does stick out a little t the top where they have tried to jimmy it open, but can still use the door ok. Obviously getting the window replaced is the first priority.

Was that under the arches? Near the Science and industry museum where it was done?

Soprry to hear you got broken in to.

To be honest, check your insurance, I had a rear window replaced for free on my car when it got done over. (Didn't affect my no claims or anything)

Sorry to hear this, but definately check out your insurance for the window. I had my car broken into via the side window and got it replaced without affecting my no claims or having to pay any excess. :hangloose
