Change your bloody attitude

Urgh, someone remind me why I work at a school again. And then explain to me why I give a shit.

We're having some server issues this morning - I work under RM so there's only so much I can do. I've managed to 'acquire' most passwords and stuff, but when all said and done we pay good money to them so as soon as I get out of my depth I give em a bell.

So, it starts on Friday eve. It was home time so I gave em a bell and left it. This morning still having trouble so I start working side my side. Obviously they're stuck with remote diagnostics, wheras I can actually try physical things.

A teacher has just come down to me, and you have to imagine this with a snotty tone and a right pissed off face.

"Dan - do you know what's going on? I can't print."
"Okay then, loads of people are having trouble. RM know about it and we're doing our best."
"Well, do you know when it's going to be sorted?"
"We don't know what the problem is - as I say, everybody knows. I'm trying stuff and so are they."
"But I need to print."
"Right?"
"Look, Dan  I need to print cover work for today."
(Silenty: Should've planned ahead then, shouldn't ya!)
"Well, I'm sorry. They'll be working as soon as we can sort it."
"Fine, then."

And she just walks off. Not that I'm shocked, she's a cheeky bitch - tried to pull a crafty the other week and acquire some new speakers by lying through her teeth to the contracter. And then she goes and gets upset with me when I take em back.

You can only do what you can to fix it.

I can see its really annoying when people are having a go at you about stuff thats out of your hands...

Yeah, I can concur with that. I'm lucky enough that 95% of the staff are great. I'm also lucky enough that not only does my line manager, the head of IT, understand how busy it can get, he also knows the 'troublemakers' so to speak.
I also work in IT support, why does this sound so familiar?

It's the way they seem to believe you're conducting some kind of conspiracy. "But it was working yesterday" And?

With some amount of luck I'll be out in a few weeks. To work with all the schools in the area... Ah well, it pays more and at least I'll be in a team!
Send her a he-to-she / she-to-he catalogue, always good for a laugh, especially the amount of other mail you get after that as well. :)

Not that i've ever done such a thing before. ;)
