coilovers (adjustment???)

ive got some avo coilovers on my mk2 golf and want the rear shocks to be softened up a bit.. theres a knob that you can turn,on it it says damping + and - which way do i turn it to soften the ride a bit?

Turn towards the minus sign........even both sides obviously but adjust in small increments until you get the desired ride.
