Crack on coil

The car has gone into the garage for a service now and they will replace the coil. But out of curiosity, what would cause a crack in the coil just at the point where the HT lead plugs in - the HT connector was also cracked (the metal part).

Overheating (unlikely i would of thought) , more likely to be someone or something leaning against it and it breaking or being removed and dropped etc

i assume its the bakelite bit you mean ? :)

Hi, Hope you well. Yes its the bakelite bit - no chance of it being broken by being hit or leaned on. Since you mention it I remember that the rubber of the HT lead had a slight hole/rip in it so I guess it was overheating as you suggest. Wow that could have been dodgy I suppose.
