I'm trying to date my dads old bike . It's a raleigh frame with trent sports decals . Single speed straight handle bars i think it is late fifties early sixties but any info would be great

Ok it's in a rather dark loft but plan is to fit new tyres and a brake cable and use it for local pottering. Whereabouts would frame number be?

Probably under the bottom bracket.

Nope i assume a fifties raleigh would have a number ?

All my googling images seems to suggest racer handle bars and 4 speed gears so i'm bit confused plan to drag it down next week

No it's a single speed with straight handle bars but google images (trent sports) suggest it's not original . My dad was quite conservative and might have specified straight bars but doesn't explain lack of gears

Right i know carrier and dynamo are recent but are handlebars correct?

Been on a few cycling forums and the single speed wheel is original . Also straight handle bars were an option when new so again they are probably the right ones . I found one new tyre at my local bike shop for 8 euros but finding a second will cost a lot more. Plan on keeping the patina ( cheap option) for now . The broken mudguards are coming off as is the eighties carrier and dynamo

It's 597 32 I am bidding on some on ebay and the local tyre shop has one in stock . Will fit black if possible but really whatever is cheap. The original plastic mudguards are beyond saving ,cracked broken and split. I have bought some period steel blue ones that i think will suit

Just won an auction ,two NOS tyres for a tenner . The seller had mis-listed them as 26 11/4 rather than 26 1 1/4
