Domain name acquisition?

If its not been taken at all you just need to register it with a web hosting company / domain registrar. Doesnt cost much.

If its just got a "holding" type page then i am not sure.

Ok say the domain i want is totally available, and i purchase that domain whats stopping me hosting my own site?

apart form upwards of 20 quid

1: buy domain
2: buy webspace (I use www.web-mania.com )
3: point domain at webspace
4: make site
...
6: profit!

Nothing as far as i can see.

You can purchase the hosting space at the same time or later from somewhere else if you wanted.

Edit Too late ...

(Is number 5 remake site and swear a lot till it works)

i've done all my domains through them. you can point them at any webspace you might already have (eg supplied by your isp) or you can buy space from them.

oh, you get email forwarding from them too - so you get [email protected]
