Engine degreaser? I've found that a big tin of the Hycote stuff works really well when applied with a paintbrush. That's on an engine that's not fitted though.
Tape the leccy bits up then .. should help...

or keep engine running ?
kept it running.

left it running for 20 mins after.

still struggled to start it.

this was on a previous car, i think its the steam, gets everywhere.

is the gunk good stuff then?

do you have to brush it on only?
Your steam cleaner sounds more like a hot pressure washer!!
Steam cleaners I've used in the past are hot hot hot... so the engine drys with the heat. just have to be careful not to melt stuff.

I use parafin first .. cheaper than Gunk etc...
i used mr muscle oven cleaner, crackin stuff removes everything
not a bad idea....
In a previous thread, someone mentioned drinking wine and spitting on the engine.
Get the engine nice and warm, turn it off and then spray brake cleaner on it. Make sure it's all dry before you start it though....oh yeah don't smoke wither..... :bandit:

petrol and pressurewasher with hot water
i spilled new oil over it earlier.

gave it a wipe with some bog roll and its good as new.....
My advice would be to...
GET THE ENGINE OUT! this means that you can thoroughly clean it. Rip all the tinware off and clean it in parrafin then some kind of degreaser. MR Muscle isn't a bad idea, it will work. As for the block I'd try to get it vapour cleaned. Someone was going to do my gearbox but never got round to it... Though the results are amazing. A coating can then be applied to make it stay easy to clean, like a teflon pan. Don't think its too expensive either. Try ringing around.

Remove ignition leads, coil, dissy cap. (draw a diagram so you know where all the wires go)

Thick plastic bag and zip ties over dizzy and air filter, or air intake. I mean thick, not a tesco's carrier bag !

Spray or brush with gunk, jizer or other decent degreaser.

Wash it down.

Let it dry and refit all the dry bits. If you've got a compressor, give all the spark plug holes & plugs a good blast of air before you fit the leads.

Be more careful when topping up the oil in future. :)

Or leave the plugs in and replace when its all dry. You can buy engine mothballing kits that have nylon bungs which thread into the plug holes.

Make or buy a cheap funnel, small bottle cut at the end
I always go to the garage jet wash, never have any bother starting again.
Oh yeah, you should not spray WD40 over any part of an ignition system. It degrades the silicone in the leads and where it does expell the moisture in the system, oil is not a conductor and will act as an insulator if you get a build up. WD40 gets you going but makes things worse in the long run, fix the fault not the sympton.
