Engine Nut Missing

587 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Laurence Fletcher
I have noticed that one of my engine crank case bolts is missing. It's one of the larger ones that sit's just above the push rod tube on a 1600 tp engine. It takes a 17mm socket but I can't seem to be able to buy one. I've tried M10 nuts with all combinations of threads but nothing fits!

Has anyone got one of these kicking around or maybe advise where I can get one. I tried all the traders at Vanfest, including the breakers but drew a blank.

Many thanks

i presume you mean 1 of the 6 large nuts that holds the case together? I think its an M12? try and M12 nut?im sure its only standard nut with a washer behind it.
The big ones are M12.

but small headed type hence 17mm socket required.

correct, but you don't need to use the small headed ones, standard 19 mm A/F M12 thread nuts will work on the bottom 3 studs, (on the top 3 they will catch on the tinware).
That's why the bloody M10's didn't fit then!!!

Sorry Laurence Fletcher, you've lost me there. There are four bolts in a row and it's the one nearest the gearbox. From memory, it sit's outside the tinware, but I might be wrong.

Thanks for all the help
There are only 6 of those M12 studs & nuts on the case, 3 along the top, (you can't see them because the tinware hides them), and 3 in a row along the bottom of the Cylinder Barrels, above the level of the pushrod tubes. There's another stud & nut, slightly below that line, right next to the M12 stud at the gearbox end, but this one is a M8 thread, and has a different torque setting. Hope that helps.
