After around 12 miles or so, my 1641 starts to run out of puff and feels like it is going to stop (when at idle) - is this a tuning/timing issue?
Combined with this, the oil pressure light starts flickering on & off (again when at idle) after a longer run of approx 20 miles or so.

I have changed the oil pressure switch and have changed the oil etc but this has made no difference, furthermore, I have done a crude compression check and this ok and there is no end float??? :(

Oil pressure relief valves?? What do you think??

Check for carb icing (when it wants to stop go & look at the inlet manifold just below the carb. If it's cold, or has ice or condensation on it, then carb icing is your problem.

Also check for overheating - When you pull over to check for carb icing, grab hold of the dipstick where it comes out of the engine. If it's too hot to hold for more than a few seconds, you have an overheating problem.
