Fine 'wet&dry' woes...

Ayup,
I'm sitting here at work sanding down the epoxy resin coating on my model boat. I have some 600-grit wet&dry, then the next rating I have is this stupidly fine polishing stuff for finishing off. It starts at 3,600 grit and goes right down to, awit for it, 12,000 grit!!!! Even the 3,600 stuff feels like a peice of soft leather, it's amazing.
Advice please:
What's the next finest wet&dry you can get after 600? Do they do 1,000 or something? This is taking me hours and hours with the 3,600 and I'm sanding myself to paralysis of the arm...
