First time drag racer

I've just returned from Avon Park where my son had his first taste of drag racing yesterday. Our '69 1600 beetle, standard apart from twin dells, managed a best of 18.89 seconds. not fast but at least we having a starting point now and plenty to aim for.
There's definately another new drag racer on the scene now that he's had a go. Today was a complete rain-off.
Yesterday was Fast Ford day and there was some very quick Mk1 Escorts there in the 11 - 12 second bracket.

Cool.......good luck :hangloose
It was the same at Santa Pod this weekend...

Look forward to seeing you guys at the track :)
excellent, im glad for you and your son, hope he will join the vwdrc and compete in a msa event, just watch out as soon as you want to go quicker it get's expensive VERY quickly, i know!
I used to race a '72 Mustang so you don't have to tell me about costs - that's the main reason I stopped.
For a novice racer, I reckon the VWDRC is spot on.
great thread - I reckon you should keep us updated - diary style!

The Bug vs Ezzy makes for a great retro pic

Hey Abi, did you get any runs in at all today, we sat around after that first few runs, then the rain started again, left it nearly an hour and it looked like it was there to stay, so set off back home around 2pm, did they get the track back open at all?

Hi Neil... no more runs... can't control the weather :(
going to get the bus on the dyno and do a RWYB day before the end of the year insearch for the 16's

was good to meet you.. hope Chris 'prophet' and I answered a few drag racing questions... if you've got anymore i will be happy to help you out... :)
Cool, hope you get that 16 before the year is out, am hoping to throw my bug down the strip at least once or twice before the end of the year too, you really got me more and more tempted today.

That's what we're aiming for, to make it as easy as possible to get EVERYONE drag racing VW's in the UK :)
