Using which system? Several different ones have been fitted.

 

I was waiting for the VZ experts to give me chapter and verse on each system and wether you could or couldn't.

 

I think it can be done with the Haldex system, as I am pretty sure the switch from 2WD to 4WD is electronic. Don't think it is do-able with permanent 4X4

 

the later ones are not permanent 4X4 are they? but never seen one with a switch... in general they are more FWD than anything... using the rear wheels where needed... like on my dad's skoda octavia

Don't think you can put all the power to the back?

FWD car with added RWD isn't it?

Although something like a Porsche which it RWD with added FWD sure it is quite easy.

 

Would the diff be up to all the power ?

 

I don't think either Haldex or Torsen can remove all torque from the primary axle (front or rear, respectively).

 

It's controlled by software, so if you rewrite the perimeters yes, the upgrade can be done without changing the unit itself if you have the protocols to read/write the unit then you decompile the data inside.

 

Can you direct 100% of the torque away from the primary axle though? If so, what are the power losses?

 

just remove the front driveshafts

It'd be very cool if you can do it. Prob need a proper computer bod to fool the car's electronics, but on the 1/4 mile would the mechanics be upto being abused in that way?

 

I havent read all these replys so here goes:

Volkswagen have cxalled their 4WD Syncro and 4Motion. The systems are used on all VAG cars but but under the brand name. I.E a 3B Passat uses the Audi Quattro system but its badged as a 4Motion on the later cars and Syncro on the earlier ones.

Golf and A3 use the Haldex clutch system, again Quattro in the Audi and 4Motion in the VW.

So to answer your question I guess its possible on the Audi swstem by removing the drive shafts at the front. The VW system I did see a mod that would switch the cars priority, so instead of it putting drive to the front and use the rear when needed it will do the reverse.

Thats similar to what I posted earlier, I can't find anywhere that states it puts more power to the rear than the front as the front drive is permanent?

 

ive got an uprated haldex valve on the 4mo to transmit more power to the rear the harder you put your foot down but im sure you cant make it 100%
