well I thought Toys R Us staff were useless
but
Halfords staff in Stockport    totally useless

what is the average age of the staff in these places ???
I'll guess at 16
do they have to pass an entrance test or do they just have to be breathing

just been to get another car seat for Joe,
after playing the "try to find an assistant" game
we found one with a Halfords shirt and badge on

kinda wished we hadn't, after several relatively simple questions all
were managed to get in the form of a reply was a vacant look ,
even Liz was loosing her patience and finally had to ask her to go and find out or get another assistant
she never came back, we found her messing up a till and about ten people waiting to pay for stuff

we left totally fed up , now is this just me getting to be a proper
grumpy old git ;)

It's scary, I've got mates who work there and one of them knows nothing about cars and was told to go install a roofrack. He ended up scratching the roof and them taking repair money out of his wages.

Thus why I don't trust them to do any work on my car.

That beats going in there and asking for a radiator of a 1968 VW Type 2.

We had the same problem when looking for a car-seat for the wee man in our local Halfords - vacant looks and couldn't care less attitude...

I dunno, I was looking for help with wiring on the split charger on the van and the chap in Plymouth Halfords couldn't have been more helpful. Even went off to look in the internet for a wiring diagram.

Couldn't help in the end but really did his best. Then again he was out of short trousers!

I went to the one at Silverlink, Newcastle for a new stereo. I'd just bought the car (punto) and the alarm went off and wouldn't turn off. After about 10 minutes of trying to fight with it in the car park one of the sales guys came out and gave me a hand.

Some of them are pretty decent and helpful. But they seem to be the exception. But then again, most weekend staff are like that. Kids mainly

thats the trouble you pay peanuts you get monkies :D
That was my philosophy when i worked there!!!

Ppl who came in and acted like dicks got treated like them!!! ppl who had a good attitude got treated with respect...but i will say that it its true...most ppl who work there have got no clue because they get new cars and don't have to fix there own

not standing up for them but there are some good guys who work there. :hangloose

Last time I was in a Halfords it was for some Glow Plugs for a Citroen diesel. I wanted four but they only had three in stock, so the lad directed me to the place round the corner where they source them from and where they were less than two-thirds of the price :)

I asked if they had a balljoint splitter once and the response I got was 'No, don't do them. Sounds like a job for a proffesional'

Also I asked where their Hylomar was, 'Don't do it' carried on looking cos I ddin't believe they didn't, found it and took it back to show him where it was :)

Unfortunately the one useful guy at my local ones seems to have left :(

A coup of years ago I was desperate for a carb kit for an Escort, gave them a call and was asked if it was for a Carburretor or Injection engine.

Never been back since.

Went in yesterday asked if they had any fuse holders. "What are they then?" They are for holding fuses. When you put in a new circuit, it can be a good idea to put a fuse in. "No, we don't do anything like that." By this time, I'd spotted them and pointed them out to the youth filling the fixture. "Oh, never spotted them before." My next question was if they sold relays. "What's a relay?" I wanted to ask if he sold tyre levers - clearly, the prime use for a tyre lever is beating the crap out of useless shop assistants who don't give a toss what they are supposed to be selling. That's the problem wanting stuff on a Sunday afternoon. God's way of telling me not to go shopping.

Sounds like the motoring equivalent of PC World or Comet to me.

Our local is alright, but then I only every go in there for paint. And you can't really fu*k up a can of paint, can you?

GSF is practically next door, so I only need to go in Halfords if desperate or if I wanna remind myself I'm not a chav by walking round the speaker section.
