Hey Guys,

I seriously need help wiring up my lights on my buggy, I've been at it all day and its driving me mad.

I dont know if I've got a mish mash of lights, relays and switches from different years/models, but I cant find a wiring diagram that fits all three components at the same time. Is there any chance you guys could tell me what wires go where and if possible a couple of diagrams?

Heres what I have.

Single column VW Indicator stalk with these coloured wires

White
Brown and white
Brown
Black and green
Black and white
and black and white with a green collar every now and then

7 Pin VW push/pull light switch with the following numbers on them
56, 57, 58, 58b, two 30,s and an "x"

5 pin Relay with the following numbers on them
"S", 30, 56,56a 56b

I would really appreciate any help you can give me as I'm on the last leg of my build and the light at the end of the tunnel that I saw this morning is slowly fading away,

Total respect guys

Moby can chime in later, but download this year diagram :
http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/1302_from_August_1970_without_test_central_socket.jpg

It should be quite close to what you have.

J is the relay
E1 is the Headlight sw.

J2 is the flasher relay for Indicators.
E3 is Hazards switch, if you choose to use one.

3 of the wires on the stalk are for Indicators, like this:

Brw goes to Earth.
Brw/Wh goes to Term "S" on the headlight dimmer relay.

Ignore the Wh wire.

Term #57 on the Headlight sw can be ignored.
Term "X" must go to the corresponding terminal on the
Ignition switch. If your Ign sw doesn't have "X", jumper
"X" on the Headlight switch to #30 (battery feed).

This should at least get you started...

If you can see the lights on a classic VW there must be something wrong. What you should have is a dim yellow glow that just manages to illuminate three feet in front of the van. I found on mine that a pair of night vision goggles was cheaper than new headlights/relay/wiring etc...
