Hi, i think my heater channels or cills? (are they the same thing?) need replacing.
They have holes and crunchie bits.
Can u have them done one at a time, or is it best to do them both togeather? How many parts/panels make up the cills, & where best to buy from? How much can i expect to pay for the parts?
Also how much can i expect to pay for this job doing, it looks a big job? Will i be off the road for ages?
Plus can anyone recommend anyone in the south yorkshire area, who is capable of doing this job?
Thanks
Denise

good site that ^^^ but a little vague in places, look at Heritage for the upper channels, and Hookey's for the bottom/ closing pieces. Not sure on prices to get the work, I've always done it myself.

Best to do them at the same time, but one at a time (if that makes sense!) have a search on here, it's a topic that comes up a lot, and have a look in the readers rides section for other peoples restos to see how they tackled it.

All depends how bad they are, if they're both rotten then do both, if ones good then leave it alone especially if your paying to have done. Bank on about £300 a side as you'll probably need to have the floor pan done along with the front inner wing and rear 1/4 lower section as well.

Thats guys, £300 per side gives me some idea, would that be parts & labour?
I cannot weld, so i wont be doing it myself, ive read up on it, and it is beyond my capabilities. Would a normal garage know how to do them right, or do i need a vw specialist? And who is Hookey's?
Thanks

You've got to go to someone who knows what they're doing. Look for a VW specialist or someone who has done more than a few of these jobs. It's so easy to end up with a crap job, and doors that won't close properly.
I reckon allow at least £1000 for both sides plus any odd bits. That could even be the price before VAT. If your channels are gone, then probably so has parts of the floor, and possibly the rear cross members.
This is the job we all dread needing........

Hooky's Panel shop.

Probably the best quality non-original VW panels anywhere.

My only complaint is that he dosen't make enough !
