How do you get off to sleep?

Having trouble sleeping, for a while now..

Just wondering what works for you folks..

Massive work-out of body and/or mind?

Nocturnal olympics?

Narcotics?

Brown Booze?

Reading?

and so on...

ps: Don't mention 'go to the doctor... I've spoken to 3, all with terrible and unsympathetic advice'

Imagin you are lying on a beach

Don't use the computer/watch tv for at least an hour before you go to bed

Don't eat before you go to bed

Get more exercise during the day but not right before you go to bed

Reading always helps me
I read... Old car magazines, pulled randomly from my collection. Last night I read a fantastic article in an old copy of CAR about driving the Lancia Thema 8.32 (the Ferrari engined one) all over Italy and up in the Dolomites :D

But yeah, basically I read until my eyeballs bleed and then fall asleep.

What's keeping you awake though? Can't get comfy? Or is there loads of stuff repeatedly spinning round in your heed?

If I can't sleep, I get dressed and go for a run. The cool night air is relaxing, and I tire myself out with the running-ness.
Hard work and a 10 month old rug rat wears me the fuck out :D but its  too
Listening to music or watching TV if I am lying down sends me to sleep, so I tend to put a CD on quietly when I want to go to bed.

Reading also tires me out, and I find that a glass of milk(shake in my case) works as well.
reading.....
a case of too many minds me tinks ;)
Running, get the body tired. works for me. used to regularly see 3.30 am. but now i go out for a run after work. sleep like a baby now
need for speed most wanted.....until i cant effing think anymore...
'sleepaid' from a co-op pharmacy, it's an antihistamin that obv used to make people too drowsy, works a treat really lulls you to sleep.
whenever i've had periods were i cant sleep i found useing this for a while sort of breaks the cycle, and i just get used to fallin asleep again without my brain going ten to the dozen.
Dude, I know how you feel except I am limited to what I can do to aid the process at the moment

Worst thing I have at the moment is "restless legs syndrome" its not pleasant and with that and anxiety I cant sleep at all right now

Sorry I am not much help, I hope you are sleeping soundly soon
red wine makes me sleepy! but that is not an advisable way of getting to sleep each night!! like alot of peeps i find reading good... jumping into a good story or someone else life in a book takes me away from the day i've had and helps me turn off, and turn on the zzzzz's...... :D or if all else fails i count in my head....sound crazy, i don't picture sheep or anything i just count and count until i find myself waking up the next morn! ;) good luck
If I stay up too late I lost my sleepyness and go back to be being wide awake  A mug of hot milk usually works, if not sex/a wank does the trick ;)

edit: however I have only just woken up after 12 hours sleep (probably not a good thing  )
Don't go to bed till I can't stay awake any longer!

Hate lying there awake! :)
joking apart...I sometimes have the same problem..I also suffer from major stress headaches, I also get Restless legs, if your not sure what this is, heres a link http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/restlesslegs1.shtml
sounds funny but its a real pain (no pun intended)

I wouldnt normaly say to take stuff, but I also asked my docter..infact two GP's and like you they were unhelpfull. I got onto a third GP, and I also asked our head of pharmacy in work.
try syndol..its a pain killer you can buy in any chemist, but it has a muscle relaxent in it, I have been tolled it is ok to take most nights as long as like any drug you dont go overkill on it and get addicted to painkillers...just once and a while when Im having real trouble sleeping I take two, it sends you off in no time.
Im not advocating taking painkillers here before anyone jumps on it, just an Idea thats all..works for me.

Close your eyes and count down from 100 to 1 s.l.o.w.l.e.y............if you lose count start again, if you do get to one start again, chances are you won't do it twice.
I don't usually have any trou.............................................
i reead pyros jokes and freshprinces threads if that dont work i watch telly ..

If I don't just drift off.

I can kind of meditate myself to sleep.

Consciously relax each part of your body a bit at a time but concentrate on relaxing your jaw and your bum as the main places to release tension.

Concentrate on breathing... ask nothing of it other that it is... have a mantra... no joke but counting sheep works as a mantra.

If you come off from concentrating on breathing and your mantra and start thinking about something then just come back to it again.
