but when I buy my new pc from dell ... do I need a modem
is it the little box you get from ntl that flashes or something else ?
I'm so dim

it's a bit of a scam that website, tells you it's from £429, click on the basic package and it's from £528 and that doesn't include stuff like floppy drive and modems ( ) it's added up to £632 now .. without the modem ;)

thanks :)
so is that not a bad price to pay then - Dimension 3100 on dell
1024 ram & 80 other thing, I added the 13 in 1 floppy, speakers & installation - sorry to keep on
The big addon on the Dell price calculator is the Support. It gives you 1 year home help by default, take that back to none and it knocks a £100 or so off.

I need the support

just annoying that it's advertising a price that it isn't, I know it says 'from' but it also lists the things included so surely for just the things listed it should be £429 and it isn't
read it carefully - some things on the list actually take cash off - e.g. support as someone said - the option is automatically selected as 1 year on site, change it to 90 day return, and you get it cheaper than the standard.

Also sometimes they do special deals on adverts - type in the quick code from the ad.
Dont get a floppy drive either. Go to pc world or somewhere and get a USB memory stick. Even if you get a 512mb one it will hlod about 250+ times more stuff than one floppy ever could.

In this day an age you dont need floppys!

thanks for the advice :)
the one I chose was 13 in 1 media card reader floppy, you can stick all sorts of memory sticks in I think  I think I'll put the order on hold and let someone who knows what they're on about order it for me, the double memory offer is on until the 1st Oct
Thanks for your help but I don't feel confident enough to order it on my own, being that I'm so dumb

 I hate bugging people and asking dumb questions

if I didn't have any internet I would be stuffed, don't really trust the bloke that done my pc before and it's my precious thing in life - saddo I know
I bought one from them almost a year ago and had an incorrect screen sent they swapped the whole lot and since then it's only had minor niggles.
Good luck.

Did you buy the extra warranty, how long did it take delivery wise and was it easy to set up i.e could a numpty do it ? I don't need to save anything off this one as I've deleted it all

and you still get return to base warranty from Dell - unless its business critical you really don't need to pay £100 for on site support (IMO)

I've bought about 4 Dells now

Piece of cake to set up - really, you don't need any extra support you can't get (better versions of) from here

how come you've bought so many, just to upgrade ?
I've only had the one pc, had it 6 years now, it's runs on a gas cylinder
my only worry is, if I lose the internet, how will I be able to ask anyone

family and friends (I'm the one that 'knows about computers')

keep the other one up and running - then you still have internet access - till its all working (then put it in the loft as back up)

Dell have their limitations, but they really don't go wrong much as far as I can make out
thanks for your help
Bugsy can I email you all the things I've ticked on the order just so you can double check it for me, it'll be tomorrow as I just having a fight with an overgrown fuchsia and the fuchsia's winning - blimey it's hot out there tonight !
