It was vacuum for the air cleaner heated air inlet control.
The vacuum operates the diaphragm "motor" which
opens and closes the flapper.

I hope the length of hose has been plugged up.

You'll want to look into the heated air provision before winter
as it is essential for preventing carb icing.

oh, and would this be causing smoke to trail from the exhaust after the engine has been switched off for a minute or 2?
thanks again :hangloose

Do plug that pipe up asap dude.

If you think about it, the carb mixes air and fuel to the perfect ratio - then the manifold transfers this mixture into the engine - if more air is let into the mixture (through your open hose) then the fuel air mixture is now full of unwanted air - which is not good for your engine at all. Get it plugged! :)

I've been suffering from Carb icing real bad recently now the weathers turned shite! And reading some of the other threads realised it was because my top flappy thing on my air filter isn't connected up.

slight problem is that i recently had to change my inlet mani because one of the pre-heat pipes rusted through and although someone has braised on the little pipe on the side - there seems to be no hole at the bottom of it ?!!!!!

A) why the £$%£% woudl someone do that ?????
B) Any suggestions other than buy another inlet manifold (again!)

Ta Muchly
