It seems toast does not always land spread side down. I've just proven it conclusively by dropping a 1/4 round of toast and jam.

How would it fare if tied to a cat then dropped?

Ah, but if it was a full slice of toast and you were dropping it onto an expensive carpet it would ALWAYS land butter side down.
Murphy's law states the chances of a piece of toast landing butter side down is directly proportionate th the value of the carpet it lands on! :D

But then again, isn't this proving Murphy?

Murphy states that everything that can go wrong, will. Thus if everything goes right, then it's going wrong, thus proving Murphy.

Bugger I thought I'd made the kind of scientific breakthrough that would set me up for life.
I was already looking at one way tickets out of here.
