I know this has probably been cover a million times but when i search for it it brings everything up with karmann " ghia" "jacking" in it and cant quite find an answer

I want to get to my starter motor safely.should i jack on the torsion bar tube? I couldnt seem to get my axle stands under anywhere i thought that would hold it. I would have tried to get them on the torsion bar tube but the jack is in the way. Do i need shorter axle stands?

Thanks i want sure that the spring plate housing would be kay or not. I am wanting to work on the rear on one the starter motor side so would you just jack up that cornerso all the car is tilting onto the left hand 2 wheels and get a stand just under the rear right torsion bar tube? or should i also get one under the front right aswell? or maybe jacking up all the rear both sides?

I've never jacked up a KG but what I do with the Bug is to jack up under the jacking point as mine are in V good condition with additional strengthening plates. That then leaves a clear space for the axle stand to support the car on the torsion bar tube. Depending on whether I want the side of the car jacked up or the rear I will place the axle stand under the TB end housing (mine are the Porsche alloy ones). There is no problem just jacking the side of the car up as it will be stable on the two same side tyres and the axle stand.
