I'm not sure what to do, so seeking opinions.
Do I keep the stock wheels and hubcaps, get a set of GT wheels (I like them, but don't know if they'll suit the car), or something else?

As far as I see it, the options are...

  1. Keep the stock wheels and hubcaps - painted yellow with the flat hubcaps as in pic.
  2. Paint the wheels silver, and stick with the stock flat hubcaps in pic.
  3. Keep the stock wheels, in yellow, with flat hub caps, as in pic.
  4. Paint the stock wheels silver, and get domed hubcaps aka Baby Moons (if they'll fit, which it looks like they will).
  5. Get a set of GT wheels, and have them refurbished (coloured silver)
  6. Do something else/get another style of wheel.

Daisy, as she is now...

GT wheels, as fitted to our other car, Bertie...

I happen to really like the GT wheels, and they suit Bertie (the pic above doesn't do them justice on the car).
However, the mild custom/mild cal-look that Daisy has sort of suits stock wheels - but I'm not overly keen on that style of wheel, and really don't like the flat hub caps. I'd be interested to know if anybody knows if the small plain domed hubcaps will fit this style of wheel, as that just might do the trick (would also probably be the cheapest way too, which is important as Daisy is a budget daily ride, and money is tight at the moment).

Isn't option 1 and 3 the same?
i think it looks a bit too yellow as it is.

paint is easy, and cheap, to try before you buy expensive wheels.

how about yellow outer rim, cream inner(slotty bit) and moons?

takes away the stock look, and done for under 30 dabs...... im going to have a go at this, so ill post pics when i have....

Yep, but I only realised once the poll was posted. Doh! I was a bit tired at the time of making the poll (note the time of making the thread).

Just for you. :D

Unfortunately Gas Burners aren't really an option, as they'd cost too much. And I'm not that mad on Gas Burners. Plus putting on alloy wheels will push up the insurance, where as sticking with VW made wheels (including the GT) means the insurance company won't increase the premium. Not that it's a lot anyway, but the car is a daily driver, and needs to be kept on a tight budget.
Plus every bugger has Gas Burners, or BRM's, EMPI 8's, etc.

I'd go for GTs
Hmmm, now that pic of your car does show they work well with the yellow. Confirms they would look good. Thank you.

Part of the look is that it's supposed to be a lot of yellow - colour coding, etc. Except the wheel colour isn't quite right (not an exact match for the body colour, and the paint on the wheels on the other side are a bit faded).
Good idea about the yellow outer, cream inner, and moons. Hadn't thought of that. Cheers.

A good cheap fix. Paint could be about £10-15, and a set of cheap baby moons are around £25.
