I haven't a clue what make the bug is so I'd say your correct! I possibly have one buried away in the loft, remember having them as a kid, but definately have a blue Renault 16 and Porsche 911 version somewhere.
I'd a mint one of those Golfs I got with a few other majorettes a neighbour gave me, gave it to a mate with a MK2

Hornby Dublo was the first iteration of the "table top" Hornby trainset in the scale known a "OO" (1/76 scale) hence the trade name of "Dublo" Late 1930s onwards, and started by the Liverpool based Meccano firm.

Everything was tin plate or cast in the early days , with Bakelite and plastics coming at the end of the 50s.

This is not a van commonly seen in Dublo collections. Good find!

Mrs Bunglebus has a very yellow Lupo. Miniature versions don't come up very often, a few different companies have made them and some demand serious coin on eBay. Fortunately I had the 1:64 Welly version in stock...

I also found a guy on Facebook making some really nice 3D printed wheels, and knowing she likes the Ronal Teddy Bear rims (no accounting for taste), I made this

Quality!! Big fan of the Lupo, lovely in yellow.
I bought a three pack of Welly VWs at a show a good few years ago as there was a silver 5door golf in it. One of the others was a purple Lupo in 1:34 scale. I'd gotten the Golf for my we lad to play with as it was the same as the one we had at the time. He'd no interest in it, but wanted the red Mk3 (similar to my previous Golf) that I bought lol. I ebayed them a couple of years ago and if I remember correctly the Lupo did very well! Knew they were rare. I still have the 5dr Mk5 Golf that came in the set, no one wanted that lol.
