Hi all,

Lads just brought a may 2012 macbook pro 13 inch the top spec one....only to find out today that feckin apple have done away with the line in option.....my old macbook has the headphone jack port and the line in port.this always allows us to hook up my external mixer with a phono to jack cable and also tractor to my decks, time code vinyl etc .....
Big problem but as we have found out today this new macbook and the later macbooks do not have a line in now....so how the folk do you get a line in now....this is just after Ive paid ÂŁ100 on a new gold cable....have apple gone feckin mad???? its like doing away with usb ports....
How can I now connect my mixer, decks, mics, any external music stuff???

what has happened to apple service care??? it use to be the best on the planet and I always praised them .....they are just shit now...the tech support did not have a clue.....endless time waiting on the phone when before they were superfast....First guy said sorry I dont know could you go and ask online:eek:
next I was told by another apple guy it was due to ox upgrade needed so it comes up in the sound prefs then you select the line in option like before as the headphone port is now a duel port for in and out...
i thought great sorted....upgraded then still no option, call apple again and finally get an answer that you dont have the line in option on this may 2012 mac or the new ones:mad:

any music guys out there found the answer please...no not the pc answer;)

got applecare and 7 days to return it so need an answer quick

thanks for any help.

It is about reducing production costs and then selling you another device to do the job of a line in. As Peelo says Apple are not the company they once were, they are more interested in selling proprietary devices, apps and music, than actual ground breaking and reliable technology. I used Apple extensively at college, now I wouldn't touch one of their devices with a long stick. I would not be surprised that in the near future if they passed their PC range on to another company like IBM did with the Thinkpad range and Lenovo. Their money is now made from flashy devices.

My mate fell foul of this very same thing. Still at least you can buy one of the many professional firewire audio cards out there on the market, I mean, it's not like Apple have dropped that in favour of some new hardly supported proprietory connector... Oh wait...

Considering Apple's major selling point has been making machines for people that don't want to spend time configuring software and hardware I find it pretty incredible that they'd drop something so standard.

Unfortunately this is what happens when a company's major customer base shifts from people who are actually using the product as a tool to get work done, to people who are more interested in cool gadgety stuff like the retina scree, which, cool as it is, is not something that I can imagine any professional would have thought 'YES! Finally!"

The real piss take is that some mac pros for more money have the exact same one port but allow line in as well as headphone out....just madness and crazy to drop such a standard thing.

While I have said I agree... Keeping repeating its such a standard thing isn't going to make it so. It was only ever a mid level home thing, professional studios or audio buffs wouldn't have any use for it at all.

Yes agree totally mate...think mainly we were a bit hacked off we paid out for an expensive jack to phono cable just before the mac..now obsolete...Well not totally will just use the old MacBook....oh well move on.
You would be surprised how many pro djs doing a live set use this cable..yes bit different for studio stuff.. And the quality you could get with a good cable was a high quality anyway as others would agree I'm sure...not high end but cd quality...that's good enough for most if you get the settings right.
