Hi all.. New to the forums, and VW's .. I got given this car as it had a suspected blown head gasket. Turns out it was the actual head was eaten away from the coolant! I got it welded and skimmed and now she fires on all 4 and above 2K rpm is fine, but idle and off idle power is terrible. PICS:

The car (NOT A GT) --

Damaged head --

After Head work--

Engine Bay after putting head back--

I obviously removed all lines from the carb to the rest of the car and like an idiot forgot to label/photo them. I THINK i got them back where they should be but would like to double check before i start ripping the carb apart.. It ran fine before removing the head apart from the misfire on 1 cylinder.

it has a Pierburg 1B carb on it. does anyone have a photos of vacuum lines in a similar car or a diagram? My haynes is for Fuel injection only so its useless!

Many thanks in advance!

Coolant eating the head is some thing I have had happen to a car my sister bought ( VW Polo Mk2 ) and the story is, the coolant wasn't changed when it should have been and it corroded the head..

So your not the first to come across this issue.. glad you got it sorted and as others have said that is an older engine. By the looks of it.. still if it works!! :) ;)
