Yep. It made a change being able to use it to go somewhere. Was fun chucking it around some country lanes on the way there too. ;)
Excellent! That's largely all I've been doing in mine!
Been enjoying having the Polo in use again, not doing anything major in it, radio stopped working which is really annoying, but it's ridiculous how easy it is on fuel!

Gonna need something as i can feel all the metalwork in the backrest. Maybe a padded seat cover. A nice set of wool or tiger pattern ones.:LOL:

1976 Argos catalogue had them so period perfect. ;)
My dad had a set of the wool ones in his Mk1 Escort when i was a kit in the late 70s to cover the dark blue vinyl seats that always gave you 3rd degree burns in the summer if we were wearing shorts. They were still in a bag in his garage last month though they'd been partly eaten by mice. :(

Ever had one of those moments when you go WTF was i thinking?
Checked to see why the oil temperature gauge wasn't working. Checked continuity of the wire from end to end and nothing. Wire was blue on engine end and grey on back of gauge. They're two completely different fooking wires. :ROFLMAO:
Found a loose blue wire end next to the speedo and plugged it onto the gauges S terminal and guess what, it works. No idea where the grey wire goes to though. :rolleyes:

They'd be class, I'd a set of furry brown ones in the garage from my bros mini he had in 1989..........heaven knows what state they're in

Rear end could do with lifting a little as the towbar catches the road with 2 up and 2 dogs onboard.
I'm still getting a couple of small back fires on over run going down hill but i can't find any loose bits of exhaust or inlet.:unsure:

Heat exchangers??
Mine used to do that when they were on the way out. Mate drove behind me at night once and said there were actually flames :LOL:

Heat exchangers are good. I've checked the exhaust connections and they're all tight and theres no sooty makes round any joins to suggest a knackered gasket so god knows.
It doesn't do it all the time, it only seems to do it on long downhills where the throttle is shut but the revs are still quite high.
The oil bath cleaner has leaked a bit of oil (blown out maybe?) but it was only filled to the red line so not overly full.
I really need to give it a good going over, check timing, plug gaps, tappets etc.

Put it down to the charm of a VW :LOL: there was the tiniest bit of rot on my exchanger where they join the exhaust and that was enough to do it, but as you say there was a bit of soot showing. Frustrating..........boy racers have to pay a fortune to get that effect though lol

When I used to run it with a glasspack silencer (with all the fibreglass missing) it used to go pop, pop, pop, pop, BANG when runninng down hill off throttle and then shoot a massive flame out the tailpipe. Great fun in the dark and it'd set every car alarm off in the street. 😂

Mine used to do it when it was cold. On the way to work 1st thing in the morning with the choke on, people would tailgate me around the one way system and I'd let off the gas and shoot 2 foot flames at them.
