Hi,

As the title says,what is the item circled? I have seen a few pictures of ghia engines and this gadget looks to be connected up to the carb. Also, my ghia's carb 34pict3 has a load of pipes blanked off (arrowed) what are these and are they associated with the gizmo on the firewall??? The car is a Cal import.

Hi there, there should be two blanked off pipes on the carb that would have gone to the origional vac advance on the distributor, buy the looks of things you have a 009 distributor that doesnt need the vac supply. the gadget on the fire wall looks like some sort of emmisions control unit that might have been used with an emmisions valve that would have been attached to the throttle arm.

Not sur ewhat the far right arrow is pointing too. Is the vehicle an import??? Is it a 1600cc???

Yes, the car is a californian import, original 1600.

It was indeed part of the emissions system. Missing is the
"throttle positioner" diaphragm. Together with the "altitude
corrector" on the firewall, the positioner used vacuum to
slowly close the throttle when the driver took his foot off the accel.

This was done to prevent some raw fuel being sent out the
exhaust during overrun.

It was quite a complicated setup and hindered driveability as well.
