A friend has a P reg Ford Escort automatic, when she is driving around town and slows down it cuts out, it restarts ok and is ok if she slows down slowly, but at about 40 and is coming to a stop it cuts out

Any ideas?
Cheers

Is the auto choke coming off or is she just pottering about in it untill it warms up and floods? It only needs a blip on the throttle to knock it off but you already know that don't you.:)
Or maybe it's sticking on (afterthought).

choke

I'm pretty solid when it comes to all things technical, the auto choke sounds like an option.
Just checked the for air leaks looks ok.

If it was an air leak I would guess that it would cough and splutter to a stand still which I'm told it isn't.

she is off on a long drive which she's worried about because she will have a baby on board. I checked the oil and water so she should be ok

Girlfriend's Golf (mk2) does exactly the same thing. It's never failed to get us anywhere and drives fine when it's going. Just to reassure you a bit.

If you don't mind me hijacking the thread slightly... what's the best way to check for an air leak? Spray lubricant perhaps?
