The thread about Dead Set has got me thinking...

Does anyone else only have the old 4 channels at home?

We can't get freeview or cable where we are and can't afford sky, which means that we have to stay in the dark ages with out TV choices. They're switching analogue off here next summer and we have a very sneaky feeling that come September we won't have any TV at all unless we shell out for either a satellite dish or a new aerial to be installed

Is the rest of the country like this or is it just the people in the depths of Dartmoor that aren't allowed modern luxuries like digital tv?

Try checking the angle of the dangle on your aerial - I did on mine and found out it was pointing at the Bovey Tracey transmitter (which is being turned off and not replaced) and I had crap analogue signal and no digital (not surprising when they aren't transmitting it) - I realigned my aerial to the Beacon Hill (Torquay) transmitter and all was good :)

Having said that I have Sky too ;)

I'm pretty sure he's tried all that and the freeview site says we won't get anything from either transmitter :(

We're just not allowed!!! When they do the switchover there'll be a transmitter in Ivybridge, but even then they don't think we'll get the full compliment of channels with freeview

I have Sky, which is the reason I'm on VZi all the time - 900 channels of RUBBARSH!! Not worth it ;)

TBH most of the time I don't miss it, but I do miss CSI and a few other shows, which would all be sorted if we could get freeview

Well, I thought EVERYONE was supposed to be able to get it. The last time we only had 4 channels was when we were in the middle of nowhere in Wales about 2 years ago :(

Sky is okay but I mainly have it for the broadband. Calls, broadband and TV all in one package and it works really well :)

The only channels we have are BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4, Five, RTE1, RTE2, TV3 and TG4 (the last four being the Irish TV stations). I don't watch much TV so this is plenty for us.

I'm almost the same - no Five or TV3 but still plenty of shite to choose from.

Don't think I could cope with only four channels now. We don't watch a huge amount of telly but anything we do watch is normally on a sky channel

It is mainly shite though isn't it?

I have Sky which has hundreds of channels but I guarantee I only use half a dozen, max (none of which are the 'basic' ones). I wish you could pay per channel

Not sure whether we're being turned off in Maldon (not heard anything) I have the sky box getting a very sporadic service. Cuts itself off etc. Can't watch the playboy channel for the free soft porn etc.:D

But I'm about to try a Topfield freeveiw recorder thingy mabob to see if that improves anything. ;)

It might also be the fact our dish is hidden in a bush

I watch very little, maybe the odd documentary on Channel4..

..and Hollyoaks, of course.

Freesats your best option if you want to keep watching TV next year or expand your channels now

. . . not free for the hardware/set-up but not really THAT expensive either ;)

Freesat box £50 + installation (inc dish & cabling) £80 = total £130 :)

Have you tried freeview on your current ariel?

Now I could be very wrong here but I'm sure they will be increasing the power of the freeview signals once the analog signal gets switched off, I remember reading something about digital signals being lower so as not to interfere with the analog signals.
