What colour column/wheel

Opinions- what colour steering column?

1005 Views 15 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Turbo_Rich
Just trying to decide on what colour to do the steering column in my bug. I was going to do it gloss black but think it may look odd against the silver cage/guages. Or I do it silver to match but then would i have to match the steering wheel as its black!

Decisions decisions. Any suggestions?

Difficult one!!! Think id go with silver to match that lovely roll cage :D
Cheers, I'm warming to silver as you say it would look better with the cage!
I would go with silver too but shouldnt you be worried that someone has stolen your floor pan :incheek: :D
i like the orange! i would paint it orange too, you can never have to much orange, even the roll cage should be orange! :hangloose :bandit: The Futures Bright, The Futures ORANGE!

 Theres always one!!!

Its the new look dont ya know!!!

FlintstoneCal!!
i think
LD 43 grey-black
SL 43 grey-black
L41 black,

with the possibilty of
L 469 anthracite
or maybe as bold as
L 96 D (80) silver metallic

:incheek:
LOL, thanks for the input. When I said I'd run the 1/4 in it i meant it litterally! It's actually a rolling shell now with all the guages in!

I have just played about pollishing the indicator stalk and it looks BLING!!! I like shiny things but still not sure!
I deliberated over these sort of things when I built my bug.

What colour you doing the floorpan/carpet??

Eventually I went for ivory for the steering column as I knew I was using all my original electrical switchgear, steering wheel, window winders etc...and painted the handbrake ivory too (some like it, some don't - I don't care ;) )

As my cage was fitted later, doing it black kept it with the chassis and contrasts well with the silver paint and red interior!!

Good luck

Colin :hangloose

Hey Colin, think I ran against you in eliminations at Bug Jam this year, I was in the standard Black GTI?! Your car rocks, the speed it came past me was awesome- I was grinning from ear to ear, had the best view in the house ;)

I have done all the floorpan/suspension etc in gloss black, trans and engine silver. The carpets will be black/charcoal as with the rest of the interior, hence having the contrast with the cage etc. It's the little things, but it all has to look right together.
There's no option in the poll for orange steering column, so I can't vote - but I reckon going with body colour is always a good bet. Too many colours mess up 'the look', if you know what I mean. I think orange column, black wheel. :)

I remember it well, seeing as you put me out :D I was talking to you 2 weeks ago at the National Finals too, was down there with Peter in the flamed Ghia.

Probably going with polished or silver will work with the rest of it. You know your at the good part of the build when you are deciding on these things :)
Ahh I remember now, was a shame about that leak...and to the weather!

Yup, always good when finishing the last bits to put the thing back together. I have polished the indicator stalk and the rest of the column will go silver, looks ok I think!
Must start the wiring for the ecu next- eeek 50 odd connectors!
