Mine used to stall because the gasket under the carb had broken up letting air in and creating a weak mixture.
Easy to swap it out and it made a huge difference.
I think I have a spare one of those in the garage.....somewhere as I got a carb of a 30k car a while back. It seems to be grand now, although it hasn't been driven yet.

Fitted the nut covers

Small update as such. Mate changed timing belt, booked an mot ...........and didn't make it. Started to cut out and mess around. Whole load of crap in fuel lines and carb. Mate cleaned them all out...........then discovered carb gasket/flange cracked and letting air in and vac advance on dizzy iffy, and breather hose on airbox had disintegrated. Have couple old dizzies in garage (somewhere) along with an old genuine gasket, ordered a new one from heritage anyway but not 100% on quality. waiting on breather hose arriving to get it sorted.

Looks like you were right on the money
Did you get a new one? Quality of repros is iffy I'm told.

Never got it fixed as I sold the car.
Which carb is it?
Poohberg, new one from Heritage was around £20, have heard that the quality isn't great though and it won't last, but it was the only brand I could find easily. It's a metal and rubber flange with bolts through it. I'll try and get something better, in the meantime this will at least get it running right. Radiator decided to start leaking too so had to get a new one  all being well should be all sorted today.
Just need to get the clocks sorted. The connections were fine and they're getting power, just a bit manky looking around a resistor etc. Trying to see if I can get somewhere local to have a look as I reckon it's an easy fix if you know what you're at........which I don't  Have found a place that will sort them but they're at the far end of the city from me and don't open on Saturdays so be a pain getting over to them.

That would be worth a fortune now just advertise as survivor rat look patina retro Polo :)
Has it been photoshopped?
It was. Dropped it a couple of inches to see what i'd look like. Sills were on their way out and it wouldn't idle so i sold it to a mate for £20.

D'oh! Although they were a dime a dozen a few years ago. Early 00s when I was still dailying mine the local scrapyards were full of them with nothing wrong
